By Advisorn · guidance, not advice

In brief

Fake e-mails in the FDPIC's name are circulating that accuse website operators of breaching the FADP. The FDPIC advises being wary of unusual senders and of requests for data or payments, and not opening links or attachments.

What happened

On 7 April 2026 the FDPIC warned that fraudulent e-mails were using its name to accuse website operators of alleged breaches of the FADP. It announced a criminal complaint against persons unknown with the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.

What it means for an SME

Be wary of unusual sender addresses or slightly different domains, of requests for personal data and of payments. Do not open links and attachments of doubtful origin.

To check, contact the FDPIC using the contact details on its official website, not those in the e-mail.
